Many educators understand the need for differentiated Reading instruction, but doing so for Math may not always seem feasible. I can assure you, it is possible AND extremely beneficial to your students! An effective method for accomplishing this task is to separate your Math time into a small mini-lesson, followed by differentiated Math centers. As part of these Math centers, you will be meeting with students to determine their level of understanding of the presented standard. Most importantly, you will find an area or areas of need and target the instruction accordingly. The most important part of this step is to document this information for your records, as well as for each student's personal record. Your students should know exactly where they are struggling and what they need to do to remediate the situation. If you do this, you will get far better and quicker results from your instruction.

Please subscribe to this blog to receive resources to support your Math instruction, as well as a useful standards-based documentation sheet. This tool is essential for keeping track of student progress in three categories: mastered, progressing, and concept development. After placing students in one of these subsections, we must purposefully plan as to how best to meet student needs.
